Newbie PDA question

I am just about to get a Dell Axim X50 PDA together with a GPS card. Do I
need different software to use for navigating a car on roads as opposed to
using for trekking on mountains? Could one piece of software do both?
Apologies if this is blindingly obvious to those who know!

Thanks
Janet

The Axim is a PPC so it should run any PPC apps. I've got a Mitac Mio 168
loaded with Memory-map OS and Anquet 50K:1 OS maps for trekking, plus
TomTom 2 and a Medion German navigation programs for driving. It will only
run one program at a time or there is a gps contention. A large chunk of
the UK OS map will fit onto one 1 GByte SD card. Ensure that the GPS card
and the SD card can be run simultaneously.
