Hi all there,

Any of you know about the existence of GPS maps for pedestrians?

I have not found so much
online, just that they could be the best application for blinds and
that in japan they are doing something like this (maybe, but not sure
having correctly understood).

I would be interested in Europe.

Thanks.

Regards,
Fabian

Michelin Mapsonic provides an option for pedestrians/car drivers, but you
still need to be able to see to put the destination in.

Garmin GPS have an option to select pedestrian as a "vehicle" type :)

I think you could get positive responses if you contact Garmin or other
GPS companies directly.
Garmin has a story about that kind of application on it's website:

Thanks to you and Paul for the answers.
I had not noted your replies before.

Garmis solution is notable, however it is far too complicated for what
I had in mind (he needs a laptop in his backbag).

With nowadays PDAs, you can have voice commander and different GPS
software (TomTom, Route66) that can "speak" the route.

I have done a few investigation in the menawhile and it looks like that
in recent software versions, TomTom version 5 (soon to come) and Route
66 Europe, they have options for pedestrian too.

Now, the most difficult thing is having the right hardware & software &
accessories shopping list (for blinds especially).

Fabian
